Windfarm Installations

Jack-ups have been used in most offshore wind farms installed so far in Northern Europe.

In most offshore wind farms jack-ups are used to pile (or drill) the foundations and also to lift the nacelle, blades and turbines into place. Very often the two functions are not carried out by the same jack-up.

As the wind farms are slowly moving into deeper water, piles are becoming heavier and longer requiring even larger cranes. In addition jack-ups with longer legs will shortly be introduced to take into account the tougher requirements of the market.

Jack-ups are also used for preliminary site investigation as they have proved efficient for soil investigation from a stable platform.
